You Gotta be Kidding Me

I’ve been a fan of the UFC and MMA for a while now. I remember back in the mid 90’s when they first got going and watching their PPV fights when they had no rules. Back when guys like Ken Shamrock and Tank Abbot were actually feared inside the octagon. After a while, I wasn’t able to follow it as much as I once did. With the resurgence of the UFC, The Ultimate Fighter, WEC and more, my nterest has been renewed and I find myself an even bigger fan than I was before. Watching the sport evolve from basically a bunch of barroom brawlers like Abbot to skilled technicians who can pick you apart like Anderson Silva has been really enjoyable. While the fights with the wrestlers can get boring at times, knowing that at any moment and arm bar or choke hold could end the fight is almost as exciting as watching guys like Forrest Griffin and Chris Leben go at it and waiting for the knock-out. That being said, I truly believe the UFC is taking a huge step backward with the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter. ‘Why?’ you ask. I’ll tell you. After the links.

Because of this crap:

Are you kidding me? Kimbo Slice? In the UFC? Are we going back to the days when all you had to do was be a street thug or bar bouncer reject to compete in the UFC? WTF is going through Dana White’s head in signing him? Isn’t he the same guy who said:

“Sean Gannon beat him in a street fight. Everyone saw what happened to Sean Gannon when he fought a guy that no one ever heard of (a decisive TKO loss to Branden Lee Hinkle in the UFC). Gannon was in the hospital for three weeks. That’s what would happen to Kimbo Slice if he fought in the UFC. He would get hurt bad – real bad.”

Now, granted, he said the only way Slice would end up fighting for the UFC is if he competed on the Ultimate Fighter, so I guess he got the best of both worlds. A major draw for fans of street fighting videos and those who know nothing about actual MMA, and he got him on his terms (TUF).

I’ll still be watching TUF this Septemeber. Mainly because the coaches are Quentin “Rampage” Jackson and former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. They’ll be featuring heavyweights this time around, and I always enjoy watching big guys with strength and skill work the octagon. Speaking of which, how much longer do we have to wait until the Frank Mir v Brock Lesnar 2 match? (July 11)

Not a whole lot to tell. I like to fish, hunt, camp, drink beer, chase women, and bitch about my vehicles. Well, that's a lie. I don't like to bitch about them, but I do it so much, you'd think I did.
