This Game is for the Birds
I’ve watched sports for most of my life – baseball & football mainly, but the occasional hockey or basketball game here and there with a little NASCAR thrown in. Over the years, I’ve seen some crazy stuff happen on the field. Mos of the time it involves the players and the ball bouncing wrong or something like that. There have been a few times where animals have been involved – especially in baseball. Who doesn’t remember Randy Johnson knocking the stuffing out of a bird a few years ago while pitching. I’m pretty sure there was another player (Dave Winfield) who killed a bird by throwing a ball at it. He intended to miss it, he said, but it took a bad bounce and killed the seagull. Well, last night’s Royals v Indians game provided another baseball-bird collision, but without the untimely death of the bird. It may have cost the Royals the game, but on the bright side it will be all over YouTube soon. Seeing the ball hit the bird is kind of difficult, but you can definitely see the bird drop after being hit.
